It is not ignorant to say that Russell Malone is known for playing with Diana Krall. He DID get more exposure for playing with her and being on her Grammy-nominated and Grammy-Winning albums. Russell actually won the Downbeat Guitarist of the Year for 1999 (or thereabouts), the year he left Diana Krall.

It is also an interesting fact that Diana Krall did not get nominated for a Grammy until Russell started recording with her -- three consecutive albums -- the third one, "When I Look In Your Eyes" won for 1999 Vocal Jazz Album, and was the first jazz album to be nominated for Album of The Year since George Benson's "Breezin." (1976-which won that year.)

Might I suggest (for those who have never heard) the Live at Jazz Standards 1 and 2 albums. Some of the best live jazz guitar work ever.

He only uses 2 fingers on his right hand! Strong right hand! And what a beautiful sound.

Anthony Wilson was already nominated for a Grammy long before he hooked up with Diana Krall. But anyway...
I wish Russell Malone would release a solo jazz guitar album of just this kind of stuff. What a magnificent musician!

Its kind of ignorant to say that Russell Malone is known for playing with Diana Krall. The only guitarist that got famous that way is Anthony Wilson. |
