It has less energy then Nick Cave's version of it. It's not so overwhelming. But it's still a good song and not a bad performance.

The two versions have a different perspective. The original version of Nick Cave focuses on the chaos and distress in the mind of the condemned man, while the cover by Johnnny Cash shows the dispair and pain that the condemned is feeling. Both versions are fantastic. If you like the Johnny Cash version better, you should check the live videos of Nick Cave performing Mercy Seat. The live versions are also more sober than the album and video version. |
