DJs being broke? Are you talking about mobile or club? Club DJs need a following, mobile DJs have to understand how to run a business in order to be successful.
Do you have a business plan? How do you justify your prices? Is your company well positioned. How do you position yourself? What is your target market?

From a musicians perspective, I think you have to put DJing in that context. It's like being in an indie rockband. Either you'll hit it big like DJ Sasha and Justice, or you'll be trudging along at the local scene, making ends meet maybe with another job.
I think the best thing going on now is the increase in productionist DJing. Part of the increased competition I think is the increase in productionship by everyone thanks to programs like Ableton and Cubase.

I did a 15'th birthday event for this girl and the problem was I had to go to 2 different houses to collect two different payments since they split the bill ($350) so i guess its the economy but not sure..

Brian,
I didn't ask for a cheaper version of the light because I couldn't afford them.
I asked for a cheaper version because I don't feel the need to invest in $300 fixtures for a market sector that I'm not currently in. The main reason for asking was to find out about the cheaper version that american dj offers.
My market sector is audio. I had no problem buying 4 PLX2502's for my business this week.

That was a very touching discussion
I am an amateur DJ,I have a good work as a technical support in a call center
YOU ARE VERY RIGHT,I have work, not so much money to build and buy my mobile system,or DJ gears that I have to have food for my family and living and all neccesary for living. I felt real bad to watch your video and listen to what you said. at least for me in the begining if somebody could help me or even give me a DJ gear as a Christmas present I'd really appriciate it. thanks

You should always charge, for anything in life what you believe you are worth, if you sell yourself 'cheap' then people are going to think you are cheap and crap. So even because you are just starting out you shouldn't sell yourself too low! |
