It is great to talk with someone with the love and respect for Duane and the Brothers. If you ever make it to Colorado, look me up. I am in Denver and would love to pick.

Very perceptive. Totally agree and I'm a Clapton fan but at the time that was the situation.

I enjoyed Clapton when he played with Mayall and Cream...he was SO exploratory and his phrasing on solos was impeccable...sublime. By the time Derrick was formed he was a drug addict and if it wasn't for Allman the record would have been a dollar bin buy.
Allman was Superman amongst the Batmans, and just think he wasn't even a noted musicwriter. Hey, ever notice how his live electric guitar tone sounded like a sax?...why not, he phrased like a sax player! BRILLIANT!

+1, I actually rate Duane above Clapton. Duane, like Hendrix or Page was just a natural when it came to playing guitar. There was a reason why Clapton seeked him out when the ABB was still relatively unknown and asked him to join his band permanently. |
