Shamrock was promoting Mayweather instead of discouraging him because he would like to see Mayweather in MMA.

It wasn't really too early in his career actually.. Also, Big Nog trains boxing with the cuban olympic team, you think he doesn't kno how to box? Even if Mayweather had SOME training, do you kno how many years it takes to actually be good or even decent against a bad ass wrestler or jiu jitsu practitioner? Any GOOD mma guy would exploit the ground weakness and finish it on the ground. What your saying is like saying a PURE grappler could beat a world class mma fighter in the cage.

Actually, if you really know about boxing you'd know that even top class boxers end up in MANY clinches.. Specially near the end of rounds, that's perfect opportunity for a take down.

Mayweather has won 4 different weight class titles and held them all. Instead of going down in weight class for it to be easier he went up. 130-135-140-147 There would be no one in his weight class as fast, as accurate, as skilled or as dangerous as him. To top it off he is a great thinking technician, most say his fights are boring because they don't understand the sport. He out boxes so many professional boxers its ridiculous. Someone who can't make it in boxing just wouldn't last.

I compared skills, not weight. I honestly don't care how big the other person is. They only have the advantage in wrestling/laying on you. Ya the UFC President is an idiot, but even if the roided Lesner is 40 pounds heavier it doesn't automatically mean he wins. Gracie use to fight people 40 pounds heavier and win because of his skill. Its the same exact thing with Mayweather, put him in a ring with someone who has little experience and they will be outclassed and destroyed.

The UFC is making money by putting on the type of freakshow that they used to insult Japan for doing, with Lesnar. If Mayweather came to fight, he'd actually be in his proper weightclass and he'd get destroyed. That's the difference. Try learning.

You're comparing a little tiny Mayweather to a huge SuperHeavyweight Lesnar? Don't you understand that Lesnar is actually in the wrong weight class, fighting smaller guys, all because the UFC president refuses to incorporate the Revised Unified Rules of the Athletics Commissions, which institutes the SuperHeavyweight division?

"But i doubt that Mayweather or any professional boxer entering MMA would go in without studying/training for it."
Just being mentally prepared is enough. MMA guys like to point to the early boxers who fought Gracie, but those guys weren't in Mayweather's league, and they were very arrogant and knew nothing about grappling. Today everyone knows about takedowns, and Gracie wouldn't be able to pull half the crap he did back then.

Yup. For all their talk about grappling and submissions and various "aspects" of MMA, fights in the octagon usually come down to one guy wailing on the other guy until the ref stops the fight. There's no skill involved. |
