Joaquin Phoenix was THE BEST ACTOR by far in this movie...Russel Crowe was good, don't get me wrong, but he had a few good one-liners and was pretty much composed of getting revenge...whereas, Phoenix's character was as complex and unique as the actor himself...one moment he was a cruel emperor, the next moment he's as insecure as a child...incredible acting by Phoenix...amazing...(see 'busy little bees' on youtube and you can see just how great he is...but there were so many other scenes...)
