no, it's because it was shot for the film, so they did a separate take without them singing, or did the guitars in ADR. that way, when mixing the audio, you have both the vocal track and the guitar music "in the clear", and are able to adjust/eq/effect them independently of each other.

Maybe they did that intentionally to show the difference between perception and reality? And that things aren't always what they seem. The most real of things may be totally unreal.
