this btw is the definition of POPERA-
Operatic pop is a subgenre of pop music that is performed in a classical operatic style. Conversely, a song, theme or motif from classical music may be stylized as pop. The term popera is used by some media editors and music reviewers.

doesnt have the right???? Who appointed you god of music? Anyone has the right to try and do anything they'd like to attempt-because one doesnt paint like Titian one doesnt have the right to attempt painting??? You ruined your own arguement and supported mine by saying the masses lap it up-it allows people who might never know opera to be exposed from there anything is possible...some opera albeit professional is dreadful-I sat thru a Parsifal in L A that could have made anyone hate opera

Wow, what an opera snob you are - people like you kill the enjoyment of music for EVERYONE. It's true, he doesn't have the voice to carry this song as it should be, but it's a competition and it was a challenge given to him by the judges. Having said that, he did EXTREMELY well considering he's a pop singer. He hasn't damaged anything - he's not pompous enough to pass himself off as an opera singer. Now, I can recommend a doctor to you so you can get that stick removed from your rear end...

Popera is a style that encompasses pop mixed with opera... not pop singers massacring opera. Stuff like the Prayer etc are certainly popera songs, but you're missing the point. People like Leith attempting opera damage it by presenting it incorrectly to the masses who just lap it up. This guy isn't a bad singer, but like I said, he couldn't sing that role in the opera, therefore doesn't have the right to attempt one of the big arias.

This is a fun style called POPERA and it is what it is-Streisand did it and so did people like Aretha FRANKLIN-it makes the music accessible to the masses and may be truer to Mozarts Shikenader than we know-but they are not opera singers and should never be constued as anything but pop singers doing opera arias-I thought this fellow was only marginal Potts is better-If you put Sarah Brightman against Sumi Jo you have a pop star and an opera star both are fine entertainers

Wrong again. Paul Pots is also not an opera singer. People please, let's just agree that there are specialists of every musical field. Why should they try and cut each other's grass? This guy and Paul Pots suck at opera. There is no way they could perform the entire opera, therefore they don't have the right to attempt this aria. There should be no reason to reply to this. I win!

I wasn't saying I don't appreciate his music... that however isn't his music. I don't need to prove anything to people on the internet, but I could do a better job, even though I'm only a 1st year classical voice student. I'm not a tenor, but the key he did it in was baritone friendly. It's a major third down from the original. As a classical singer I would never try to sing something I don't understand or can't handle. He tried this and failed sorry! |
