Technically yes you do need a license. But you can just make up a callsign and do it anyway. Once you have saved a few lives with your radio skills no one is going to quibble about whether you have a license or not. Also if anyone who actually has a license gets all snooty about it on air and tries to pull you up you can suggest that they simply 'f**k off* and make up a new callsign and put on a funny voice...problem solved.

these guys are really great! anyone who suggests that they are just lonely busybodies sticking their beaks in where they are not wanted just so they can act all hoity-toity like they are heroes or something needs to think again IMHO
