The siheyuans and hutongs are the Regional Building of Beijing.Chengdu also has many old buildings like Du Fu Thatched Cottage(The former French President Chirac liked it very much).And Chengdu's delicious food is well known in China.

can anybody tell me if Chengdu is a nice typical chinese style city? I have heard that everything is becoming very modernized. Is there any nice old chinese houses like Siheyuans and Hutongs?? any nice old buildings?

You are right! Chengdu is a wonderful mix of history but also the future. A new airport, Hewlett Packard and other tech industries moving in, nite and cosmopolitan life to challenge most US cities, and this clip just shows a serene past, tourists and seniors. My wife is from there, I own property there, and this ain't a good representation of her.

Chengdu is not a city of old dude things! This is only a street in Chengdu and it's not in the downtown area. You'll find the downtown area is much developed than this area. If you wanna see another modern symbol of Chengdu, go to see the tower. It's even higher than Eiffel!
